Bio
I am a contemporary mixed-media artist working in acrylic, ink, watercolor, printmaking, and spray paint, with a strong emphasis on screen printing and carving techniques. My work explores the intersection of cultural identity, history, and social justice, inspired by pre-colonial art, Mesoamerican iconography, and the vibrant aesthetics of early 90s grunge, comic book and Xicano culture. I am deeply influenced by the rich oral traditions of my ancestors and the stories that have shaped my community, which I translate into my artwork through vivid colors, bold and dynamic imagery, and layered textures.
Using both traditional and contemporary methods, I create compositions that reflect the complexity of identity and the resilience of marginalized communities. My work is both a personal exploration of my own heritage and a broader reflection on the ongoing struggles for justice and equity. By utilizing a variety of materials, including fabric, wood, and found objects, I challenge the boundaries of traditional art forms and invite the viewer to engage with the past, present, and future in an interactive, thought-provoking way.
